Check out last month’s Washington Post article on the head choreographer for the 2008 US Olympic Synchro Team. Formerly a designer for Cirque du Soleil’s “O” show, Stephan Miermont helped create the unique free and tech routines that made the US Team stand out from the competition at this year’s Olympic Games.
Looks like my answers (along with the Sync or Swim plug) didn’t make it into Max Klinger’s article about synchro. Oh well, at least he did his homework. And I love that his caption for the picture below is “Yes, this is as difficult as it looks.”

Former synchro swimmer Jen Graves reveals all in this Q&A, complete with smart and dumb questions (their words, not mine), that Newsweek calls:

Come on Newsweek, don’t be shy. It’s okay to admit your love for synchro. I promise, it won’t hurt a bit!

Though the event won’t be broadcast until tonight on Oxygen, the US team placed fifth in the Duet Event at the Beijing Games. The USA duet of Andera Nott (who is featured in Sync or Swim) and Christina Jones looked fantastic in the preliminary event and gave it their all in the finals. The Russian team (same swimmers as the 2004 gold medal team) took the gold, Spain won silver, and Japan the bronze. Full event results here.

President Bush was fortunate enough to spend some time with the 2008 U.S. Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team before the Opening Ceremony on 8/8/08.
If you pay close attention to the NBC coverage of the Opening Ceremony, you can pick the 2008 Synchronized Swimming Team out of the sea of Ralph Lauren-clad USA Olympians. They look so thrilled! Congrats to all of the swimmers and their coaches and families. The Olympic Synchro competition begins on Tuesday, August 19th. GO TEAM!
